Product Information

Electrolyte balance can be an important issue in a number of situations, as well as in the elderly. Particular attention needs to be paid to calcium and magnesium levels. Calcium and magnesium play important roles in maintaining normal bone metabolism in the aging population, and both have links to electrolyte balance.* Maintaining a proper balance of potassium and magnesium is especially important in these circumstances.*

Both potassium and magnesium are essential for maintaining normal muscle contractility, already normal blood pressure, and proper nerve conduction.* Potassium-Magnesium Citrate offers these two important intracellular cations in one capsule. In addition, citrate chelates can benefit individuals with a propensity for precipitates in the kidney.*

Ingredients

One Capsule Contains:
Magnesium (as Magnesium Citrate) 70 mg.
Potassium (as Potassium Citrate) 99 mg.

Other Ingredients: Hypromellose (derived from cellulose) capsule, Leucine, Silicon Dioxide.

Suggested Use: Take 1 capsule one to three times daily or as recommended by a health-care practitioner.

Warnings

ALLERGY WARNING
This product is contraindicated in an individual with a history of hypersensitivity to any of its ingredients.

EXCIPIENT FREE
This product does not contain wheat, gluten, corn, yeast, soy, egg, dairy products, or artificial colors, sweeteners, or flavors. This product also does not contain lactose, palmitic acid, or magnesium, calcium, or vegetable stearates.

INTERACTIONS/CONTRAINDICATIONS
Several prescription medications can induce potassium depletion, including aspirin, laxatives, trisalicylate (a pain medication), colchicine, corticosteroids, non-potassium sparing diuretics (such as thiazide diuretics), and sodium bicarbonate.

The botanical Glycyrrhiza glabra can result in potassium loss. Although it more commonly occurs with long-term use of more than one gram glycyrrhizin daily, some individuals can experience signs of potassium loss with lower amounts.

ACE inhibitors (captopril, enalapril, ramipril, etc.) can produce potassium retention by inhibiting aldosterone in the adrenal glands. Potassium supplementation concurrently with ACE inhibitors and potassium-sparing diuretics (spironolactone, amiloride, triamterene, etc.) should be undertaken with caution to prevent excessive potassium levels in the body.

OTHER WARNING
Gas, bloating, or diarrhea may occur in some individuals taking magnesium supplements. This can occur at varying amounts depending on the individual and resolves when the amount is reduced.
